20 things to do when you’re upset

downloadWe don’t always have the best day, so sometimes we just can’t shake off the funk from feeling flat and upset.  Here’s some ideas to get rid of the funk, and say hello to feeling on top of the world.

1. Go for a walk in nature

2. Mediate for at least 5 mins – even if it is guided meditation

3. Help someone else or do something for someone else

4. Put on your favourite song and dance like no-one’s watching

5. Write a gratitude list with all the things you’re grateful for in your life

6. Tell someone you love them

7. Do something completely spontaneous and fun

8. Go to a yoga class

9. Practice some deep breathing exercises – breathe in for four counts in through the nose, and once out through the nose. Continue this cycle of breath until you start feeling better

10. Book in for a beauty treatment

11. Organise a lunch date with your girlfriend

12. Load up your phone with feel good music – songs that make you happy

13. Bake a cake

14. Write in your journal about why you are feeling upset

15. Watch your favourite movie

16. Tell someone how you’re feeling

17. Have a bubble bath

A new weekly planner to get you organised

Well, my son has been in school for over a month now and I have so many things to remember every week from news day, sports day, library day, homework due, mufti day and the list goes on and I just can’t keep track of everything that I need to do for him and I thought I would create a weekly planner to help myself and also help other mums out there.  So, here it is my new Weekly Planner to help you get organised for the week.

It includes:

  • Keep track of family appointments and school reminders
  • Self care / wellness planning
  • Meal planning / errands
  • Things to do for the week ahead
  • Focus on how you want to feel

Enjoy the planner.  I would love to hear from you, post a comment below.

Daily Practice: Self-care for all mums

So, what is self care? Well it is about taking care of yourself and remembering that a happy mum will have a happy familIMG_0220y.  As mums we need to nurture the nurturer in order to have the energy to be there for our family.  In my prenatal yoga classes on Sunday, I have been giving my students a home practice each week which is different around self-care.  My goal with this practice is to get them used to taking care of themselves before baby is born so when baby arrives, they allocate time to themselves in a way that resonates with them.

When we take the time to reconnect with ourselves, we learn to let go of the things we can’t control, we become authentic, and gentle with ourselves.  Here are two self-care practices you can incorporate into your daily life.

For me personally, I will be honest, this took me a while to get the hang of. I would always find an excuse for not taking time out to myself doing something that made me feel alive and connected to my body.  Finding the right practice to incorporate into  your life is also something that you need to tap into your intuition to understand what is the right practice to do.  I have included two practices below which you could use, and I will start posting daily practices on the website on various ways to reconnect with yourself and create more bliss in your life.

1.  Spend 10 minutes to yourself everyday – do a practice of being kind to yourself.

Here’s a few examples:

  • Bubble bath
  • Meditation
  • Yoga
  • Read a book
  • Go to the shops
  • Go to a cafe and spoil yourself to a yummy treat
  • Go to the park
  • Bring your awareness to your feet and become present in your body.

Do what works for you, you will know the right thing for you. Trust your intuition and enjoy the process.  The only rule to this – you need to do this practice without your partner or children. It is purely for you.

“Be gentle with yourself. You are a child of the universe, no less than the trees and the stars. In the noisy confusion of life, keep peace in your soul.” ~Max Ehrmann

2. Set your alarm every hour to do something that resonates with you, here are some examples:

  • Ground through your feet by sending your awareness and attention to the soles of your feet
  • Connect with baby
  • Do some deep breathing

I will start posting several daily pratices you can incorporate into your daily life.

Have a beautiful day.

Namaste xx
